Hyam Elsaharty

Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms, Peru, 2019

Hyam Elsaharty is the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) consulting teacher for Seattle Public Schools. Her focus is on supporting secondary schools in SEL implementation, as well as partnering to lead district-wide culturally responsive and racially equitable SEL supports. Hyam is also a freelance SEL curriculum author and consultant. She is on the Educator’s Advisory Council for Fund For Teachers (FFT), a grant program providing teachers self-designed professional development. Committed to providing culturally responsive SEL, she co-wrote an FFT grant in 2017 and was awarded the opportunity to embark on a self-designed professional development throughout Malaysia and Singapore. During this time, she studied SEL practices around diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a strong emphasis on supporting the refugee population.

Previously, Hyam worked for Mather High School in Chicago, Illinois as a high school Special Education/Math teacher while also leading the Advisory and SEL program. She was awarded the Outstanding SEL Teacher of the Year in 2019. During this year she also was accepted to and participated in Harvard University’s Think Tank on Global Education where she crafted her work around the development of empathy and soft skills.

Hyam has a M.Sc. degree in education and a M.A. degree in human resource development with a specialized focus on adult training and development. She is an alumna of the Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms program and completed her fellowship field experience in Peru in 2019.
